That 1 Guy

So my buddy Eddie has a knack (a gift really) for saying stuff that sticks in your brain. Last time we saw That 1 Guy here at The Black Sheep he says to me something like: "Imagine how proud Mike's Mom must be: "Oi! Don't ask... all his fancy schooling and still he's playing a PIPE, you shouldn't know!" (in my very best Jewish Mother voice, of course). I've not been able to scrape that image out of my brain, I laugh a little every time I think of it.

I don't really know how close to the truth it is, hopefully Mike's Mom is really OK with what he's doing. Maybe Uncle Mikey can enlighten us if it's not entirely too personal? I just know that he spreads a LOT of joy in what he does, and he genuinely seems very happy to be doing it, what else should matter?

"Find a job doing what you love and you'll never work a day in your life."

Well, it's interesting, but, in terms of "status", as soon as you are on a stage and have any number of adoring fans, well, that's just far far louder than anything else in most eyes. And really, the details of what Mike does are probably certainly quite a bit more prestigous from all of the angles Mike is probably interested in anyway, to contain the kind of music talent and an ear for a kind of sound that leads into actually having an instrument unique to you. I'm sure Mike's self-esteem and his parents' pride are in a very healthy place. And they should be.

I'm a type of fan that even takes some strange sense of ownership of Mike's music in a way that causes me to feel huge respect for Mike, and that has me actually feel proud of him myself.
